Food insecurity is known to be a reality in the Lake Placid/Wilmington community. During a focus group with sixth graders at the Shipman Youth Center in May 2024 this was again reinforced by students. We congratulate the LPCSD for their support. They are committed to provide food for students via the Backpack Program. Students receive food items and milk and egg cards (Stewarts).

In addition, the school board recognized that not all students took advantage of school meals and convinced the school board to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students. An expensive endeavor but increasing the ability of administration to level the playing field with all students receiving adequate nutrition.

CYC is able to support this program financially and are proud to do so.

Our Art Director, Naj Wikoff is to be congratulated on completing our joint 5th mural project. Students were present at the unveiling of the mural for the Mt. VanHovenberg’s Luge Team.

Naj never overlooks a blank wall. His creative brain always sees possibilities. We are fortunate to have him on our team.
